Prior to writing this blog post I had shared (as part of my 30th anniversary in business) a very special instructional video about how to create a capsule wardrobe. The video was so well-received that I had requests to show you capsule wardrobe examples with clothes you can find in the stores right now (in January 2017).
Normally I only do this kind of thing for my private clients or those who are on the private forum that is part of the ‘Dress to Impress—Yourself!’ online course because it takes me so much time to put something like this together. But, because everyone was so enthusiastic, and I want to help you make progress in your capsule wardrobe adventure, I made an exception this time.
While you can create a capsule wardrobe with any neutral color I am doing these capsules with black since so many women have a lot of black already in their closets.
Capsule #1
The first capsule I did with a bright pinkish red as you can see here:
I have included some basic black pieces as well as a jacket, dress and cardigan in the same tone. This creates the foundation. Then, I added some prints, scarves and jewelry. This collage is just a sampling of the pieces I have included in this capsule. You can see ALL of the options HERE.

This is a very versatile piece because you can add either a black or pink/red jacket or cardigan over it and complete it with any one of the scarves you’ll see in the catalogue including this one:

Capsule #2
The second capsule I did with teal.
I chose this color because it is a very flattering color on many people. Since the whole idea of a capsule is to make getting dressed easy, for this example I stayed with black as the basic neutral. I didn’t want to overwhelm you with too many options, but you could just as easily choose white as the neutral and it would look great. In fact, it would take the teal colored pieces of this capsule beautifully from winter into spring.
There are many, many more options with this capsule beyond what you see in the collage photo above. For instance, if you love feminine, lacy pieces, you will enjoy this pretty teal lace tunic (although I do not recommend putting white under it like they did).
With that tunic, however, I would recommend having a tailor remove the bottom part of the sleeve from the sheer piece down to the lace at the cuff. So, the sleeve would end around the elbow. It’s a much more flattering, uplifting length. See more teal capsule options HERE.
