Simple Ways to Add Versatility to an Outfit

One of the key factors these days in choosing clothing and accessories to add to your wardrobe is assessing its versatility. Having items do double, triple and quadruple duty means you get more wear out of your clothes and more variations to add personality and self-expression to each outfit.

Recently, I purchased some garments in a fabulous mustard color. This is definitely not a color that works for a lot of people, but it’s a good one for me. So, I took advantage of the availability of this color and am having fun with it.

I wanted to be sure I could wear it more than one way so here’s the same outfit accessorized 3 different ways:

1. With Jewelry

This warm color lends itself so well to gold and bronze jewelry (my personal favorites). This bronze necklace is a go-to for me because it looks good with nearly everything I own and the color is perfect. The earrings add a bit more edginess to the outfit which I like (I wear a lot of big earrings) and add a touch of ‘controlled fire’ (one of my inner beauty words) to the outfit.

2. With a Special Kind of Scarf

Talk about having an item of clothing do double duty…what I’m wearing here as a scarf is actually a sleeveless top. I just put it around my neck and tucked the bottom of the top through the armholes. Voila! A short, cozy scarf that can also transform into a top and be worn with the jacket as well.

3. With a Traditional Scarf in a Non-Traditional Scarf Tie

Why not have a little fun with your scarf tying! This one will take the bulk out of a scarf and add a little extra spunk to your outfit.

Now it’s your turn. Take a favorite simple outfit and add some pizzazz to it by practicing these ideas or adding your own!

I’d love to hear more about what you do.
